Project Description

As independent consulting lift engineers appointed by Great Portland Estates, LECS UK worked with the architects and all other stakeholders to achieve the optimum solution for four new passenger lifts at 6-10 St Andrew .Street.

Located within the City of London, the nine-storey refurbished building is now serviced by four, newly installed MRL passenger lifts with bespoke interiors of fluted tiled walls, timber panelling and black powder coated metal work.

DETAILED BREEAM REQUIREMENTS

The LECS UK team project managed the entire lift project from design concept; traffic analysis; technical specification through to commissioning, along with detailed BREEAM requirements to enhance the net-zero carbon credentials of the scheme with the lifts featuring regenerative drive units that feed energy back into the building system. The transportation element achieved a score of 100 percent with full credits awarded.

WORKING WITH ARCHITECTS & DESIGNERS TO DEVELOP CONCEPT

Led by Michael Ford consulting lift engineer at LECS UK, the team developed the specification, managed the tender process and liaised with the client, architect, main contractor, and lift contractor to deliver the optimum outcome for passenger traffic within the building.

Michael Ford said: “Our involvement from the outset of  the St Andrews Street scheme was a key ingredient in achieved the very successful outcome. Working with the architects and designers on the original concept helped streamline the process and ensured budgets were maintained.

“The building was originally seven storeys with traditional machine rooms. In an innovate design, the architect stepped the building which required the use of machine room less lifts. The full renewal of each lift allowed compliance with modern lift standards including a firefighters lift.”

This substantial refurbishment of an existing building to create approximately 48,000 sq ft of fully-managed office space, was completed at the end of 2024.
